A shocking case of fraud has come to light in the Belghat area of Gorakhpur, where three unidentified individuals posing as employees of a finance company took away a young man’s bike, citing unpaid EMIs. The matter surfaced when the youth’s mother visited the official Bajaj Finance office and discovered the truth.
The Incident
Saroj, a resident of Patisa village under Sikriganj police station, lodged a complaint stating that her son, Lavkush, had purchased a bike on EMI from an agency in Malhanpar. A few installments were still pending. On April 7, Lavkush, along with his friend Sujeet, had gone to drop off his cousin Ashwini at his home in Bhisiya village, located in the Belghat area.
While returning, three unknown individuals stopped them outside Bhisiya village. They introduced themselves as employees of Bajaj Finance and took the bike keys from Lavkush. When Lavkush called his family and had them speak to the men, they repeated their claim—saying the bike’s EMI was due and they were seizing the vehicle. They assured that the bike could be collected after paying the remaining installments.
Truth Uncovered
On Wednesday, Lavkush’s mother visited the Bajaj Finance office in Gorakhpur to deposit the pending EMI and retrieve the bike. To her shock, she was informed that the company had not sent any employees to collect the bike, nor had they seized any vehicle. Realizing that her son had been defrauded, she decided to report the incident.
Police Complaint Filed
She submitted a written complaint to the Sikriganj police station on Wednesday evening, requesting action against the culprits. Station in-charge Kamlesh Kumar stated that no formal complaint had been received yet, but appropriate action would be taken upon receiving the written report.
Need for Vigilance
This incident highlights a new tactic used in financial fraud. People are urged to verify the identity of anyone claiming to be from a finance company, especially in cases involving seizure of vehicles or property. Immediate reporting to the police can help prevent such crimes.
